Welcome to CD-Funhouse version 10.1 !!! (c) 1995
This disc contains nearly 200 hand-picked games for DOS and
Windows. The games have been separated in to several categories
and a database of the games has been created for your convenience.
You can access the games either through the database interface
or by browsing the directories through DOS or the
Windows File Manager. Register and receive information about
special offers and upgrades! Use the enclosed registration card or
the file "Register.txt".
***BONUS***
The featured games are located in a directory called BONUS in the
PC directory for those of you that can't wait to get your hands on
them. ENJOY!!!
**IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT SHAREWARE: Most of the programs provided
are shareware and require that you send a payment to the program
author if you decide to keep and use a program past the shareware
trial period. The necessary information about the author can be
found in the provided database, in text files in the directories,
and within the program.
FINDING OUT ABOUT THE PROGRAMS BEYOND BROWSING THE DIRECTORIES.
We have provided an indexed TextWare database that allows you
to read about the games, find out about their authors, shareware
fee, rating, location on the CD-ROM, and search for any text.
This database also allows you to access the programs without using
DOS.
GETTING STARTED (using the TextWare Index):
1. At the DOS prompt, change your drive letter to the
CD-ROM drive.
2. At the DOS prompt, type FUN
Textware will boot up automatically and display the
database.
3. For help with running Textware, refer to Textware
directions inlcluded with the disc packaging or
the on-line manual for help running textware.
The programs on the disc have been categorized within the
database. These categories are:
1. Run Me
-This option will execute the program
from the CD-ROM without installing it
on your hard drive.
2. Install Me
-This option calls the program to execute
its install procedure. This will install
the program on your hard disk.
3. Take Me There
-This option temporarly exits Textware to
the DOS directory where the program is
located.
To execute these options, simply move the cursor (with the mouse or
arrow keys) to the highlighted area. Then click with the mouse or
press enter. Some programs may not execute properly from the CD-ROM
and may require that they be installed on your hard drive. Each
program should execute properly if the program and all of its related
files are copied to an unlocked media (hard or floppy drive).
Some programs contain their original ZIP files in their directories.
These files have been left there for you in the event that the
program will not run or install properly from the CD-ROM. A
distribution copy of PK-UNZIP has been provided for you. To install
a program from a .ZIP file, type:
pkunzip PROGRAM.zip DESTINATION
where PROGRAM is the name of the .zip file and DESTINATION is the
place where you wish to install the program. For example:
pkunzip newgame.zip c:\games
This will install the program, newgame, to the games directory of
the C: drive. A working knowledge of MS-DOS will also assist you in
the use this disc. The interface is not a necessity for use of this
disc. This disc can be used as if it were a locked hard drive.
TROUBLE-SHOOTING:
Computer does not recognize the disc:
-Often this problem can be solved by cleaning the surface of the
disc. Before cleaning, examine the surface of the disc by
looking at the bottom of disc while tilting it back and forth
near a light. Problems may be a scratch in the bottom, finger
prints, smudges, dust, or anything that would effect proper reading
of the disc. If the disc is dirty, you can clean it by eiusing
a clean cloth and gently rubbing from the center of the disc to the
edge. DO NOT RUB THE DISC IN A CIRCULAR MOTION!!!
-Make certain your CD-ROM drive is plugged in, turned on, and
all of the proper connections to your computer are made.
The interface becomes caught in an endless loop:
-This problem can be solved by putting the root of your boot
drive in your PATH statement. Your boot drive is the drive
your computer first reads information from when it boots up.
Most often this is C:\. The easiest way to modify your path
statement is to type:
PATH = BOOTDRV:\
at the DOS prompt, where BOOTDRV is the drive letter of your
boot drive. To learn more about modifying your path statement,
consult your DOS manual.
GENERAL PROBLEMS WITH RUNNING THE GAMES:
-The games in the WINDOWS directory require Microsoft Windows
to be running. The games are easily launched through the
Windows File Manager.
-If you are using the File Manager to launch DOS games, the
games may not execute. This is caused by an incompatibility
between the game and the Windows software. Try launching the
game from DOS or, if possilble, through the provided interface.
-Some programs require large blocks of contiguous memory. If
a program does not run due to memory problems, you can try
to free up memory in a number of ways. If you are using DOS
6.2, you can run MEMMAKER. This program will automatically
configure your memory optimally. Consulting your DOS manual
under "Optimizing your system" will also give you valuable
information on how to free memory.
